Personal Childhood Web

Dedicated to those who cared for me as a child.......

My mother for her round the clock care and wonderful spaggetti dinners. My adopted father who made everyday a fun adventure. My 3 sets of grandparents who cared for me, my brother, and little sisters. My Grandma and Grandpa Olsen who loved to take us to the beach. My Grandma and Grandpa Cain who taught us the love of the woods. My Grandmother Lorraine and Grandfather Tom who loved to hold us. My aunts and uncles, who not only babysat us, but told us scary stories! My best and most favorite 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Huserick, who took me under her wing and helped me through my deep shyness.

  1. Hi Shari:

Thanks for sharing your family stories. From your childhood web, you seem to be from a close extended family as well. I feel that these relationships help children's growth and development. They child gain a sense of security in the world. The extended relatives can also help teach skills that a parent may not have themselves. For example, my grandmother taught me to sew. My cousins helped my with baton practice.

At the same time, I don't believe that children need to come from a large family to benefit from extended relationships. This could also come through family friends, neighbors, and teachers.

What are your thoughts on this?
